descending to the earth.
Queen
Maya's dream as the bodhisatta chooses rebirth in her womb.
Prince
Siddhartha is brought back to the palace and brahmins predict his
future.
Asita
predicts prince will be a Buddha to the consternation of King Suddhodana
who prefers him to be a world monarch.
Siddhartha
attains the Jhanas sitting under a rose-apple tree during the ploughing
festival.
Siddhartha
wins the sports competition for the hand of his cousin Princess
Yasodhara.
Pince
Siddartha marries Princess Yasodhara.
Marriage
celebrations.
Siddhartha
sees the four sights.
He
finds the dancing girls in sleep to be disgusting and turns away from
sense pleasure.
He
takes a last look at his wife and son Rahula before leaving the palace
secretly.
He
flees the palace on his horse Kanthaka and with his servant Channa.
He
renounces the world and leaves his clothes to Channa to take back to the
palace. Ghatikara Brahma offers him robes.
Upon
hearing the flute player, he stops practice of the austerities. As a
result, his 5 companions leave him.
Near
Bodh Gaya, Sujatha offers him milk rice.
Mara
attempts to stop his quest for enlightenment.
The
Bodhisatta setting his bowl upstream before it was deposited on
Mahakala's head and then resting on the bowls of the 3 previous Buddhas.
On
the night before the Great Enlightenment, he recalls his past lives.
The
daughters of Mara tempt him.
Meditating
under the Bo tree in the forest at Gaya during the full-moon night of
May, the Bodhisatta becomes the Buddha.
Devas
come to worship and celebrate his achievement ~ Brahma Sahampati's
Invitation to Teach.
Muchalinda
the serpent shelters the Buddha during a storm.
Buddha
teaches the first sermon, Dhammacakkapavathanna sutta to the ascetics.
Buddha
descends from Thavatisa heaven after teaching the Abhidhamma to his
departed mother.
Magha
Puja day-when 1,250 arahants spontaneously assembled on full moon day in
February. Sakyan princes renounces en masse.
At
Thavatisa where the Buddha teaches the Abhidhamma to the devas. The
stone slab the Buddha is seated on is the Pandukambalasilāsana.
He
who attends on the sick attends on me - Mahavagga.
Nanda
sutta ~ Give up the material world, for appeasement.
The
Buddha visits Kapilavastu.
Buddha
ordains his son Rahula in Kapilavastu.
When
Buddha visits Kapilavastu, Yasodhara waits for him.
From
birth to great enlightment.
Cunda
offers the last meal. Buddha suffers from stomach pains.
Maha
Parinibbana.
